Gasa's Hidden Gems

HISTORY

Gasa, Bhutan's northernmost district, has a history rooted in spiritual significance and natural beauty. It is home to the Gasa Tashichho Dzong, built in the 17th century by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel to defend against Tibetan invasions. Known for its hot springs, Gasa remains a center for tranquility and healing.

CULTURE

Gasa's culture reflects its spiritual heritage and close connection to nature. It is influenced by Bhutanese Buddhism, with monasteries and annual festivals like Gasa Tsechu showcasing traditional music, dance, and rituals. The semi-nomadic Layap people inhabit its highlands, practicing yak herding, weaving, and a unique way of life adapted to the mountains.
