Dagana's Hidden Gems

HISTORY

The history of Dagana is central to Bhutan's unity. In 1651, Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal built the Daga Trashiyangtse Dzong, establishing the region as a critical administrative and monastic center. The Dzong housed the powerful Daga Penlop, governing under the dual system and securing the area for the newly formed nation.

CULTURE

Dagana's culture is a blend of Ngalop and Lhotshampa traditions, centering on Buddhist spirituality. The Daga Tshechu festival, held at the historic Dzong, features sacred mask dances (Cham) and rituals. Agriculture, especially growing oranges and rice, forms the core of rural life, which is deeply connected to ancient legends of megalithic rocks and local protective deities.
