Trashi Yangtse's Hidden Gems

HISTORY

The region gained spiritual importance in the 15th century after being blessed by Pema Lingpa. Key sites like Chorten Kora and Gom Kora were established. Historically a trade hub, it was formally created as an independent district from Trashigang in 1992.

CULTURE

Trashiyangtse is Bhutan's cultural center for woodcraft (shagzo) and papermaking. The National Institute for Zorig Chusum preserves these traditions. The major annual Chorten Kora Tshechu festival is characterized by ritual circumambulation, reflecting the deep Buddhist faith of the dominant Tshangla people.
