Haa's Hidden Gems

HISTORY

Known as the "Hidden-Land Rice Valley," Haa served as an ancient trade gateway between Bhutan and Tibet. It is the ancestral home of the royal Dorji family. Its 7th-century temples, Lhakhang Karpo and Nagpo, remain spiritual pillars. Strictly restricted for decades, the valley only opened to international tourists in 2002.

CULTURE

Haa’s culture is defined by the "Haap" people and their nomadic traditions. Residents celebrate "Lomba," a unique New Year, and are famous for Hoentay (buckwheat dumplings). Devotion to the guardian deity, Ap Chundu, remains central. Life revolves around yak herding, high-altitude farming, and the vibrant Haa Summer Festival.
